North Quabbin Woods

Welcome to Hartman's. We are Lynn and Peter Hartman and our
daughter Carissa and her children Cameron and Chloe. Other
members of our family include, Haunchy, the dog
and Cinderella Sunshine, a much smaller dog.

We are a small, family-owned farm that began in 1975 when Lynn Hartman potted up some herbs that she found growing on the  old property she and her husband Peter had recently purchased. She brought them to town one weekend and set up at a flea market. By the end of the day, she had sold out and was taking orders for more. We spent the next few years raising our children and learning to grow different plants. We learned about drying them and crafting with many different herbs and flowers.

We have since grown to include facilities for your wedding, wedding reception or gathering. Our dining room can accommodate up to 150. And we offer bed and breakfast accommodations if you'd like to spend the night and enjoy our country setting, nearby walking trails and other activities.

In 1980, after selling some of our herbs, dried plants, dried herbs and flower bunches and dried flowers at a local country fair, we decided to open a shop in the old woodshed at our home. Since then, we have become a multi-faceted business that includes 14 greenhouses for herbs, perennials, bedding, vegetables and dried flower plants, a barn and shop for retail sales and a classroom for teaching dried and fresh flower crafting and other herbal related subjects. We have added dining rooms for bus and group tours, weddings, showers, birthdays, anniversaries and and functions. We offer five rooms in our bed and breakfast. Our display gardens are available for you to walk in.

Hartman's Herb Farm is located in the Town of Barre, Massachusetts, a typical small New England town with a beautiful common and bandstand. Small businesses, stately old homes and churches encircle the common. Barre is in the heart of Central Massachusetts, just 30 miles northwest of Worcester. We are on the eastern edge of the Quabbin Reservoir, Boston's main water source.

Hartman's is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day. Our services include Bed & Breakfast, dried and fresh flowers for weddings, herbal sympathy wreaths, and for other purposes, lectures to garden groups and bus tours, craft and herb classes and a retail shop to browse in. We offer mail order service for those who cannot visit.

Special events at our farm include open houses on Mothers' Day weekend (spring), Columbus Day weekend (fall) and Thanksgiving Weekend (Christmas). Call, write or inquire by e-mail for a schedule of events and dates.

In spring, we start herbs and perennials in our four greenhouses to supply our walk-in sales and mail-order gifts -- creations of hand-made dried herbal and floral wreaths and baskets. Visit our mail-order page to see our catalog or come along in person to visit our gift shop at 1026 Old Dana Road in Barre. We are here from 10 to 5 every day.  Check our Events page for class schedules.

For information about booking your celebration or event, our catering choices and about staying overnight in our guest rooms and enjoying our grounds, follow the links at the left side of this page. We are close to the Quabbin Reservoir and to many wooded hiking trails. Visit our gardens and our gift shop. Send an email inquiry on any subject.

Lynn and Peter Hartman, daughter Carissa and the staff at Hartman's wish you all the best of health and happiness in your life. We hope we can share a small part of our world with you. We would like to thank our customers, both old and new, for your support over the years. You have helped us reach the goals that we have attained.

Herbally yours,
Lynn, Peter, Carissa
